Underwriting Support Representative

Description:

This position represents WRVO Public Media's multi-station broadcast and online network to corporate and institutional clients in the central and northern regions of upstate New York.  This position is responsible for identifying and approaching prospective underwriting clients, writing contracts, assisting in the development of underwriting messages, and helping to coordinate flight insertions on the station network and display advertisements on wrvo.org. 

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $24,000 plus 15 percent commission on all cash underwriting contracts assigned or sold (five percent commission paid on approved trade contracts).  Minimum draw against commissions of $1,200 per month to be paid for up to 12 months regardless of sales volume after which compensation will be set at $24,000 base plus straight commission.  Additional compensation may be available from time to time for assistance in production and/or station operations.

Required:

  • Associate's degree in a broadcast related field
  • Minimum of four years in underwriter-supported media
  • Experience working at the broadcast station level
  • Ability to work under stressful deadline conditions
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience in on-air radio production
  • Familiarity with FCC rules related to underwriting on public media

Responsibility Areas:

  • Identify and approach corporate and institutional underwriting prospects.  Work with Underwriting support representatives and staff to develop strategies for attracting and retaining underwriting clients.
  • Establish effective communication relationships with underwriting clients and prospects in order to assure strong, effective links between WRVO Public Media staff and underwriters.
  • Assist WRVO Public Media management in developing promotional underwriting packages that meet the needs of a broad range of potential and existing underwriters.
  • Adhere to underwriting copy policies that conform to guidelines set by the FCC as presented in station policy.
  • Actively seek opportunities to engage with the broader community at networking events with high potential for generating underwriting prospects and for reinforcing success of WRVO Public Media in reaching key demographics to the benefit of underwriters.
  • Assist with listener support activities and events when requested by station management.
